John Murray Press is set to publish Booker Prize and Women’s Prize nominee Fiona Mozley’s third book.
Becky Walsh, senior commissioning editor, bought world rights to Awake, Awake from Leslie Gardner at Artellus. Madeline Jones, senior editor at Algonquin Books, an imprint of Little, Brown, Hachette Book Group will publish in the US.
The acquisition comes as it was announced that Mozley’s 2017 Booker-shortlisted debut, Elmet, will be adapted for the stage as part of Bradford City of Culture 2025 and will premiere in in October.
A new edition of Elmet was also published in August, as one of the 10 launch titles in John Murray’s new JM Classics series.
Walsh said: "I am thrilled to be joining forces with Fiona again and publishing her third novel at John Murray in June next year. Fans of Elmet and Hot Stew will see some thematic similarities with Awake, Awake but it is also very much its own thing. It’s about memory and the past, about how much we can really trust our own recollections. I can’t wait for readers to see what Fiona has come up with next."
Mozley said: "I am delighted to be working with Becky Walsh and the John Murray team again. Becky always seems to understand just what my novels are about and she doesn’t rest until they are as good as they can be. I can’t wait to share Awake, Awake with readers and am looking forward to the launch next summer."
John Murray will publish Awake, Awake in hardback, trade paperback, e-book, and audiobook editions in June 2026. Algonquin Books will publish their editions in August 2026.
